1. Introduction: Why you should visit Mui Ne, Vietnam?

Mui Ne is a destination specifically for beach lovers, and even better, the beach is quite close to the city center, making it very convenient to get around whether you’re spending your vacation in Phan Thiet or Ho Chi Minh City.

Mui Ne is not only famous for its beaches but also impresses and diversifies the travel experience with many unique natural attractions: streams, waterfalls, sand dunes,…

Furthermore, Phan Thiet, a developing city in Vietnam, is very peaceful and has many restaurants, especially seafood restaurants, as the seafood here is very fresh, caught directly from the sea.

Where is Mui Ne located on the map of Vietnam?

Mui Ne is located 22km from the center of Phan Thiet city and 177km from Ho Chi Minh City, approximately a 2-hour and 30-minute drive.

Besides Phu Quoc, Mui Ne is another popular beach destination in Southern Vietnam. Mui Ne is considered a truly relaxing destination for short getaways, with a large variety of small beaches and many tourists also find it more affordable than Phu Quoc.

2. Mui Ne, Vietnam Weather: Best Time to Visit

Best season for beach tourism in Mui Ne

What’s special about Mui Ne is that, despite being a coastal area, the weather is pleasant year-round, making it suitable for tourism at any time.

For tourists who want to enjoy the beauty of the sea, with its clear and blue waters, the dry season, from April to August, is ideal. This is also the time to easily witness beautiful sunsets and sunrises because the weather is dry, sunny, and with few clouds.

From August to December is the rainy season in Mui Ne. Despite that, the rainfall is relatively light, so it’s not too disruptive. Tourists can still plan time to swim, but it’s best to participate in alternative sightseeing activities in Mui Ne. Some water sports can still be enjoyed during this time because it’s windy at this time of year,  it’s perfect for surfing and kitesurfing.

Travel tip, please note that on hot, sunny days in Mui Ne, it’s necessary to bring sunscreen, and especially a spray to prevent skin irritation. Walking on the hot sand in Mui Ne can cause skin irritation, leading to itching and mild burns for many tourists. Therefore, especially during the dry season when temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius and the sand is very hot, it’s best to avoid going between 11 am and 2 pm in Mui Ne.

3. Good Beaches in Mui Ne, Vietnam

Mui Ne boasts numerous beautiful beaches of varying sizes, allowing visitors to choose according to their preferences. These could include beaches near their hotel or those with scenic rock formations perfect for photography. Many visitors seek secluded beaches, but based on our experience, we advise prioritizing safety by selecting beaches where swimming is permitted, have lifeguards, and, for a quieter experience, visit early in the morning.

Beautiful & popular beaches

Mui Ne Beach

Mui Ne beach is very beautiful, and it’s considered one of the best places to watch the sunrise and sunset because it’s the widest beach in Mui Ne. There are relatively few tall buildings or hotels around, so you can clearly see the surroundings. Especially at sunrise, you can see some fishing villages operating, and tourists can watch fishing boats heading out to sea.

Ham Tien Beach

Ham Tien Beach is a bit more unique, located in a separate development area for hotels and resorts, so it’s generally quite private and uncrowded. Although there aren’t many spots suitable for sunbathing or sand activities due to the limited beach area, it’s still a beautiful beach where you can swim and participate in water activities such as kayaking and surfing.

Bai Rang Beach

Finally, Bai Rang Beach is recommended as it’s a beach that’s sure to please many visitors. The beach is wide, with a long stretch of sand and plenty of sun loungers for relaxation. Most spots have umbrellas for shade, or visitors can adjust them if they prefer sunbathing. Right near the beach is a traditional fishing village, so besides serving drinks, especially coconut water, visitors can also find simple restaurants near the beach to enjoy fresh seafood. The beach also offers various water sports and activities such as surfing and kiteboarding.

Ong Dia Beach

Ong Dia Beach is a beach specifically designed for adventurous travelers. Due to its unique geographical location, strong winds create large waves, making it ideal for water sports. Swimming at Ong Dia Beach requires careful attention to safety; swimming is recommended due to the strong waves. However, because it’s often the first beach visited by tourists, it can be very crowded.

In Mui Ne, there are many other beautiful beaches suitable for swimming and participating in sea activities such as fishing with local fishermen (in the early morning), snorkeling, etc. Visitors should choose a suitable beach based on suggestions and prioritize safety, as Mui Ne beaches always have safety warnings posted.

4. Top Mui Ne Attractions & Things to Do

Besides the beach, Mui Ne also has many unique tourist attractions and activities where you can participate directly with the locals.

Visit Mui Ne fishing village & experience fishing

Mui Ne also boasts traditional fishing villages that retain their natural beauty with small houses and red tiled roofs. Tourists have the opportunity to experience and witness the daily lives of the fishermen. Some activities visitors can participate in when visiting the fishing villages include watching the women weave fishing nets, or observing the processing of dried fish and fish sauce. A particularly interesting activity that visitors should take time to do when visiting the fishing villages is participating in the early morning seafood market. From around 4 am, many fishing boats return to shore, bringing with them freshly caught fish; therefore, although the seafood market opens early in the morning, it is very bustling.

Fairy Stream ( Suoi Tien)

Tourists seeking a tranquil and pristine natural destination might consider visiting Suoi Tien (Fairy Stream). The scenery at Fairy Stream is captivating, with natural rock formations in red and white separated from the nearby forest by a small stream. From a distance, visitors can capture unique and striking photos, with the red hues peeking through the rocks and sand.

Mui Ne Sandunes

Many tourists choose to visit Mui Ne to experience the sand dunes. The sand dunes in Mui Ne are unique because in some places, the sand has a beautiful reddish-yellow color. To explore these dunes, tourists should travel and tour by Jeep with a local driver. Visiting the sand dunes isn’t just about sitting in a Jeep and looking around; tourists can stop at several points to take photos. Furthermore, sandboarding is available; choose areas with slopes according to your “courage,” as each surfboard is charged separately for the entrance fee to the sand dunes.

The best time to visit is also important. If you want to watch the sunrise, you should leave early, between 4:30 and 5:30 AM. Avoid going at midday as it will be very sunny, and walking on the hot sand can easily cause skin irritation.
