Con Dao is steadily becoming one of Vietnam’s most anticipated destinations for travelers seeking a tranquil beach retreat under golden sunlight and beside crystal-clear waters. However, access to Con Dao by air remains limited. There are currently no direct flights from Hanoi, and flights from Ho Chi Minh City or Can Tho are few and not available daily.
Recognizing this gap, the Asia Viva Travel team proactively explored alternative transportation options. We surveyed and evaluated high-speed ferry routes from both Vung Tau and Tran De (Soc Trang) to Con Dao, offering more flexible and scenic travel solutions for our guests.

How to get to Con Dao by Phu Quoc Express boats
In March 2025, Linda—a dedicated member of the Asia Viva Travel team—personally surveyed the available travel routes to Con Dao to provide guests with the most up-to-date and practical options. Our team journeyed from Vung Tau to Con Dao by high-speed ferry and continued onward from Con Dao to Tran De in Soc Trang province. Both routes were carefully evaluated for comfort, reliability, and overall travel experience, ensuring smooth and efficient alternatives for travelers seeking a seamless journey to this island paradise.
Depending on your flight arrival time in Ho Chi Minh City, booking a Hai Van Limousine transfer from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Vung Tau is a highly recommended option. Hai Van Limousine is a well-regarded transport company, known for its reliability, frequent departures (every 15 minutes), and user-friendly mobile app for convenient bookings.
Comfort on the road
What impressed most was that each seat is equipped with a built-in massage function—an unexpectedly relaxing feature, especially after a late-night or long-haul flight. The drivers are experienced and familiar with the route, making the 2-hour journey fast and smooth. The fare is also quite reasonable, at around $10.50 USD per person.
From Vung Tau, travelers can catch a high-speed ferry to Con Dao Island. Currently, there is only one direct sailing per day, with the journey taking approximately four hours. While it’s a longer route, this option provides greater flexibility in terms of ticket availability, unlike flights which are often limited and quickly booked out. However, this route is best suited for travelers who don’t suffer from motion sickness, as the sea can be rough—especially on windy days.
Overall, this overland and sea route is a convenient, budget-friendly, and relatively comfortable way to reach the stunning island of Con Dao.

Con Dao – Tran De Route: A More Relaxed Option
For a more relaxed journey from Con Dao, we would recommend the Con Dao to Tran De (Soc Trang) route. The ferry ride takes just 2.5 hours, much shorter and less tiring than the 4-hour journey from Vung Tau.
Tran De is conveniently located, with only a 1.5-hour drive to Can Tho, making it an ideal starting point to continue exploring the Mekong Delta or catch a flight. This route offers more flexibility with ticket options, making it a great alternative to the longer Vung Tau route.
Both the Vung Tau and Tran De routes offer their own advantages, with Vung Tau suitable for those who want to travel quickly and conveniently, while Tran De offers a more relaxing and less tiring journey. Whichever route you choose, both are great options to explore Con Dao, promising to bring great experiences to visitors, guaranteed by Asia Viva Travel.
Your serene escape awaits
